It’s the most beautiful day of the summer on the Shenandoah!
Puffy white clouds are drifting across a baby-blue sky, casting sharp shadows on the sunlit mountains.
There has been a miraculous absence of rain, heat and humidity over the past two or three days and the temperatures are heavenly. It was almost cold on the mountain this morning, and I thought I saw a yellow leaf somersaulting past the car window as we headed for town.
Over the weekend we saw a steady stream of traffic heading up towards Skyline Drive, and SUVs and trailers laden with kayaks and canoes bound for the river. I felt a twinge of sympathy for the weekend visitors, knowing many would have to head back to the city yesterday evening while we would get to stay here, surrounded by by all of this.
